the women who present with generalized edema as well as extreme engorgement
seem to really benefit from use of a diuretic, and i refer them to their
doctors. often when the edema goes away rapidly the milk is "free" to come
out, even though there is still engorgement. most doctors (and this is
usually the ob/gyn that does the delivery) don't feel that engorgement is a
problem, even when it is extreme, but respond to the generalized edema as "a
problem" that can be fixed.
