I hope this is not too late. Two articles related to embarrassment and breastfeeding:
Bryant et al. 1992. a strategy for promoting breastfeeding among economic disadvantaged women. NAACOG's Clinical Issues in Women's Health Nursing.3(4):723.
(Discusses embarrassment as a barrier to breastfeeding.)
Rodriguez-Garcis, R. and Frazier, L. 1995. Cultural paradoxes relating to sexuality and breastfeeding. J Hum Lact 11(2):111.
(Commentary on the cultural notion of the female breast as a sexual object.)
Also, there was a report(Lactnet, July 3, 1998) by Ellen McIntyre of a University of Adelaide survey regarding breastfeeding in public-83% saying that is was not acceptable to breastfeeding in public.
Hope this helps.
