Hi~
My name is Stacy and I am fairly new to this list. I hope to someday become
an IBCLC, but since I am a stay at home mom it's going to take me awhile yet.
For the time being I am a Certified Lactation Educator and I have done a
little bit of consulting with new moms.
I have just recently moved to a small town in N. Ca. where there is virtually
no breastfeeding support for moms. I have yet to find a LLL or Nursing
Mother's Council and the local hospital doesn't offer any type of
breastfeeding support at this time. Which is what leads to my next question.
I have been trying to get into the hospital to give these mom's the much
needed support, I even went as far as to volunteer my time a few days a week.
I was turned down. The woman who I spoke with was an IBCLC and she seemed
very resistant to having me help her. However, she only works at the
hospital 1-2 days per week and sometimes for only 4 hours at a time. She has
told me that the hospital won't let me work there, not even volunteer. Does
anybody here know why this may be?
The last question I have is this. I have gone through the hospitals public
relations dept. to see about starting a breastfeeding support group at the
hospital. Today they told me they were very interested. I am trying to find
out how to start and run a successful breastfeeding support group. Could I
get this info. from those of you who have done it?
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely-
Stacy
