Due to the traffic on this page I almost never join (tho I often enjoy) the
personal stories people share. I do want to share that while there are no
studies I have noted about the end results of co-sleeping (which was a
comment made on the 20/20 show) the idea is hardly new. The LLL group I was
part of 20 yrs ago had many families in it who co-slept, and I've stayed in
touch with 5 or 6 of these families locally, and many more nationally.
Here's what I've observed: These teens are often more approachable than
their peers, and if they have problems, they are more likely to be
self-destructive than aggressive. Now I don't think that self-destructive
behavior is ideal, but given the propensity for our culture to be raising
teenage boys who "cry bullets" I'd rather see an alienated youth turn inward
than outward. Esp. since problems are solved from the inside out anyway. I
know that my own three girls, 14,18,21 have had various challenges as teens,
but in general are kind and funny, and have never been known to suffer a
bully to torment any smaller child or animal in their presence. There is no
guarantee that any "system" of child rearing will always give good results,
but I have been interested in my observations that attachment style
parenting seems to not produce aggessive teens. I'd like to hear what
others think of this observation. Does it fit yours over the years?
