I have severe headaches whenever I have inadvertently consumed aspertame.

I called a couple of friends who react with severe GI cramping (similar to
what an infant experiences) and asked them what they would do if some
wonderful food had mistakenly had aspertame added to it. They said that
they would definitely not consume it, even in diluted form. "A little goes
a loooonnnng way."

When someone on the list suggested diluting it and trying it with baby, I
thought that was a good idea, until I talked with these friends. Also, I
have ordered regular Coke a couple of times, only to discover with the
first sips that my mouth was saying, "Nutrasweet!!", after which I didn't
drink any more. I still got the headache half and hour later.

So, if you could present this to the mom in a way so that she is relieved
to discover what is making her little one so miserable, she could, with
glee, remove the possibility of his hurting like that again. Advise her
about ways to replenish her stores again, with new "clean" milk. Maybe if
she could see her "stash" of milk as being a "stash" of aspertame, it would
be easier.

In my practice, I find the use of Nutrasweet to be the number one cause of
GI cramping. I need to help the mothers see all of the sources of it in
their diets. With one, the last place was in her sugar-less gum. After
eliminating that, all was well.
