I may be too late to help you, (today is lactnet catch up day) but I would
watch the baby for swallowing. If nipples are cracked and baby is clenching,
I often see the baby relax and suck more correctly w/ fluid going in w/ a
supplementer or supply line at breast (expressed milk or sugar water). Or
give the baby some of the sugar water or expressed milk via alternate method
to calm and relax him and then put to breast. Hope this helps.
