Mothers who have a caesarean section in the UK used to be separated from
their babies for a few hours after the birth, but for about 15-20 years it
has been the norm to deliver the baby straight into mother's arms, just as
after a vaginal birth. She can feed straight away. If she had a general
anaesthetic, she usually comes round quickly (the amount of stuff used is
very light) and she is helped to position the baby at the breast at the
very earliest moment.
It would seem very unfair to 'allow' (horrible word) early feeding after a
vaginal birth, and not to for a section - especially when we know the link
between separation and bf failure.
