I am certainly no expert on the Jesus thing but...I have always been amazed
at the apparent detachment of the parents in modern nativity scenes from
their baby. Is it not cold in Bethlehem in December? What is this thing
about Jesus lying in a manger with his mom looking on? Wouldn't he have
died of exposure?
Recently I was driving down a suburban street and saw poor plastic Jesus
lying in the snow between his parents on somebody's lawn. This may seem
comical but...in fact it is a grave error to imprint this sort of thing on
people (IMHO).
I would dearly love to see a nativity scene in which the babe is at breast.
Until I do...I am filling my home with my statues of Isis and Osirus, and
Yemaya with babe at breast. Children (of which I have three) do not need
child neglect modeled for them by their religious images!
