It's a good idea to send LC consult notes to doctors.  Most doctors, if
they're following accepted procedures for charting, have to initial each
piece of correspondence about a patient before it's filed in the chart--i.e.,
all lab data, consult notes, etc.  Therefore, they should at least skim the
note before initialling it, as they are responsible for knowing the
information contained in it.  When writing consult notes, it is advisable to
keep them brief, state your diagnosis clearly, and outline your management
plans clearly.  Most busy doctors will scan the body of the letter, note the
diagnosis, and read the management plan, but may not read the body of the
letter in detail.
