Thanks to everyone who gave me information/anecdotes on Atarax. The mother
checked with the pediatrician, who said she's given it to one-year-olds. So
yes, she agreed, it should be fine for this mother of a one-year-old
nursling to take it.
She took her first dose last night and it quelled the itch! She's
delighted, and I'll bet she got a whole lot more than the 2 hours' sleep she
got the night before.
I've encouraged her to go back to both the pharmacist and whatever doctor
told her to wean, to explain the logic she and the pediatrician used and the
outcome...
