Lisa,
I'm a L&D nurse as well as an IBCLC. With a placenta previa, and a
scheduled c/s in Nov. there should be no problems with BF. She just
needs what every mom with a c/s should get. Lots of assistance to get
the baby to breast as soon after delivery as possible (within the first
hour). Then at intervals that the baby decides. With a scheduled c/s
she shouldn't receive so much med before the baby is born that it would
much effect how the baby nurses.
However, if she bleeds before the scheduled c/s, significantly she
may have trouble with her milk supply. This would be the same reason as
if a vag. del. mom hemmorages after delivery. We'll hope none of that
occurs. The usual precautions, if she's not hospitalized during this
wait. No sex, or anything else in the vagina, no lifting, lots of
rest. Good Luck. Betsy Wells-Gephart RN, IBCLC
