OK, for the record here, speaking as a LLLL, I have a group Mom who due to
many unfortunate interventions continues to give her baby ebm from bottle as
often as she puts babe to breast.
Our job as a LLL group is to offer her Mother-to-Mother support where she is.
She has never been made to feel uncomfortable about giving the bottle at a
meeting, but hopefully has made long lasting new friends and support people
so next time the breastfeeding can proceed in a more "normal" manner.
I agree that this Mom should speak out. She should tell the other group moms
that she feels uncomfortable bottle feeding at group and ask them to help her
overcome this self-consciousness. LLL meetings are what the group mothers
make them. No two are ever alike, just as no two groups are ever alike. This
Mom cannot really claim the group until she participates, and may provide
very useful information for those moms still to-be. She is a terrific example
of the hard work and dedication sometimes necessary to overcome challenging
situations.
