Several concerns: a pregnant women called me today & stated she has
"severe osteoporosis". She desperatly wants to breastfeed. Her
endocrinologist is very against it but has agreed to 4 months at most.
She needs to return to taking fosamax, Vit. D, and Ca, (I don't know
doses). MD told her that this is not compatable to nursing. I searched
my Hale and archives and found niether yes/no on fosamax. any info.?
Also, mom is blind and failed nursing her first. She feels it is because
she could not see a wide mouth to insure a latch. Has anyone worked with
a blind mother? If so, I welcome any suggestions. I can be e-mailed
privately if that's better for the group.
Thanks, Dawn Staudt-Vanek RN, BSN, IBCLC San Jose, CA
