Lisa Mo and collegues:
I have good news related to the confusion researchers are giving us
regarding HIV and infant feeding studies. UNAIDS and researchers like Miotti
and Coutsoudis have spent a week (this week) in meetings in Montreal/Canada
trying to get their brains together and give the community a clear message.
As an outcome of the meetings, we are expecting recommendations from the
organizations that have field contact(mothers, babies and families with HIV)
and the results of researchers(figures).
I promise to let all know the results as soon as the oficial statement is
public.
Numbers, percentages, percentiles, relative risks, lack of definition of
breastfeeding are common and missinterpreted figures. We should be very
careful not only on looking at the figures but also on the multiple
interpretations.
Have a nice weekend.
Dora Gutierrez M.D.
