Hello ~ I've been lurking on the list about 10 days or so now. I plan to
mostly lurk as I'm very much in learning mode so far, and just starting
on the long journey to IBCLC. I'm involved a bit with encouraging
brestfeeding at a local home for unwed moms and am looking for a way to
get some serious hours and training. We have several IBCLCs in this
area, but none practicing full time.
I had to jump in here, as this is something I'm familiar with. Yes, I
would assume by "Christian style" this mom is referring to Ezzo. You may
be familiar with _On Becoming Babywise_. This orginated as
_Preparation for Parenting_, which Gary Ezzo and his wife Anne Marie
co-authored. PFP is a supposedly Christian manual (Scripture references
were removed to produce _Babywise_). It advocates Parent Directed
Feeding on a "flexible routine", limited feeds, early sleeping through
the night, and allowing baby to cry for extended periods of time. Ezzo
backs it up Biblically with a verse from 1 Corinthians "God is a God of
order". He equates order with a schedule, even though the verse in
question has nothing to do with schedules, but with peace and harmony
during a worship service. YUCK! He attempts to prove that demand
feeding is humanistic and therefore something good Christians won't do.
I believe PFP is Biblically inaccurate and Ezzo twists and misinterprets
Scripture to support his own ideas of parenting, not to mention the
medical inaccuracies contained in PFP/Babywise!

BTW ~ This program, and the insiduous way it has seeped into churches, is
a major part of why I've decided to become an IBCLC!
