Why not a topical anesthetic just before nursing? Xylocaine viscous? How old is
this baby? Is the herpes also being treated with Zovirax? If nothing else works
I guess I would try cup feeding until baby is able to suck again.

Subject: baby with herpes
Have any of you ever dealt with a baby who has herpes blisters on the mouth.
They are causing so much pain for the baby that nursing is almost impossible.
The doctor has prescribed codeine. Any other suggestions?
