Unfortunately I can't remember where I learned this, but the conventional wisdom in Norway is that antibodies in breastmilk are produced in a near constant amount and are distributed throughout the day's production. This means that a mother who feeds often gives her baby small "doses" with each meal, while a mother who is down to just an evening feed or a morning one delivers the whole amount in a single feed.
I have brought this to the attention of mothers who are starting to get comments about how they are prolonging BF for their own sake (and so what if they are? I always think), so they can inform their "friends" that there is also a measurable health advantage to the baby even at one feed a day.
Wish I could recall the source of this tidbit-- Elisabeth Tufte, are you there?
