This is a case in which I would try a nipple shield. It might decrease stim. and
thereby decrease supply. Also, it would give mom a break from her nipple pain
for a week or so. It could also discourage some clamping because that wont
really work with the shield.
Good Luck,

Subject: over-supply/clenching
I a looking for any suggestions for a mom I am working with.
7 week old baby. I have seen her for 2 weeks. BW 10lbs now 16lbs
Mom and baby have struggled with yeast which we seem to have on the run.
Main complaint now is nipple soreness due to baby clenching to slow down
the incredible flow of milk this mom has. He breaks suction and comes off
after he bites down. We are doing 2 feeds per breast, sage tea, cabbage and
feeding the baby upright or top laying to slow the flow of milk.
We have tried some suck training but this baby gags and spits out anything
but a breast. Cranial Sacral work is next on the list.
Anything I am missing? This mom is a trooper but is really getting tired of
hurting.
