I have been asked to help with a mom who had bulimia prior to her
pregnancy, and was able to keep it under control. However, since she
delivered, she finds she has no appetite, and I am concerned about her lack
of intake. It is not that she doesn't eat much - it's that she's not
eating ANYTHING for 10 - 12 hours until her husband gets home and he gets
her to eat something (usually fat free milk or some other liquid). Baby is
4 weeks old and is gaining OK, though not great. Mom is VERY obese.
Lately baby has been very fussy in the evenings...
I have of course referred her back to her support group which helped her
with the bulimia, and am in contact with the nutritionist from WIC who is
also working with her, but what are my responsibilities?
We have had some great successes with moms on drugs who have kept
themselves clean by using the breastfeeding as their "one breastfeeding at
a time" way to avoid using. I would like to try this with her, also, but
would like some input from you.
I am no-mail right now due to taking 2 university courses required by my
job, so please e-mail me directly as well as to the group.
