I just started a Breastfeeding Task Force at our hospital and we are in
the progress of plannning little events from 11:30-1:30 Monday 8/2
through Friday 8/6 in our lobby. This is the first year we will
officially celebrate (I am organizing it since I was finally hired as a
full time Lactation Consultant a few months ago). We will have a quiz
board for people to answer questions and receive a treat. We have some
canvas breastfeeding bags from the Learning Curve. We have rattles in
pink, blue and yellow that say: Breastfeeding is Best! and our hospital
name on the other side. One day we will discuss baby wearing and have
moms come with babes in nice natural slings. We will probably give out
milky way bars and milk duds to the staff after they answer inpromptu
questions during the day. They will get a milky way if they answer
correctly and a milk dud for wrong answers. We are having a bake sale
one day (we would like to use the money to put toward a fund for pump
rental if a mom can't afford it). We will have give aways all week long
for moms-to-be and nursing moms to register for. The drawings will be
on Fri 8/6 along with a nursing moms fashion show. I have lots of moms
from support group who will participate!
Some of the give-a-ways will be breastfeeding books, nursing pillows,
cotton bra pads, collection storage bags for the back to work mom, a
gift certificate to our Lactation Center for a consult or product
rental/purchase, a massage for mom, free infant massage class for
parents and baby, aromatherapy, relaxation music, Natural Food store
certificates, hair cut for mom and first cut for baby, etc. We will give
out 8 of Ruth Lawrences book to 8 Peds offices 9drawing (we may need to
rig this one!!). We will also have coloring books for the children
which show mothers nursing their babies. We are hoping all goes well,
as everyone is wondering what WBW is all about!
I'm off to Orlando Sat AM. This is my first LLLI conference, so glad it
is only hours from my home.
