Lactnetters,
I am working on a project to do with children who are "picky eaters". I
have a few questions I thought I'd throw at you ;-)

1. Is there really a "window of acceptance" for the introduction of
solids? Mothers often tell me that they missed this "window" and that is
why their baby won't accept solids (often, they are told and believe
that it's about 5mo), but I feel very skeptical

2. At what point does a (breastfed) baby's refusal to accept solids
become worrisom and exclusive breastfeeding become inadequate? I have
case histories of 18mo's. Could iron and vitamin supplementation be used
to tide them over?

3. Are those "difficult to breastfeed" babies often the same babies who
are later picky eaters? I have annecdotal evidence that this is so.
Could it be oral aversion problems or GER that is causing both problems?
Or could it be more to do with the mothers attitudes? (perceiving the
child as "delicate", for instance).

4. Do you believe the use of processed and jarred babyfoods has a
negative effect on children accepting solids and later, accepting
tablefoods?

5. Do you believe ABM-fed babies are more likely to be picky eaters? (I
have not been able to draw this conclusion from my own research so far)

I am as interested in opinions, at this stage, as I am in research so
please feel free to wax lyrical. If you feel it is inappropiate for this
forum, please email me privately. TIA.
