Tracy, I always hated this little tent-thing with a passion too. But last
summer I saw an ultra-orthodox Jewish mother, with five kids under maybe 7
years old, bf her infant at a public park under this tent. This mother's
community has extremely strong modesty rules such that she would basically be
confined to her home until she weaned without a product like this -- in fact
it was the first time I have ever seen an ultro-orthodox mom bf in public,
and I live in a part of the world where there are lots of ultra-orthodox
families. So while I would hate to give people the idea that this product
is needed, I can see that there are people who would just wean from
loneliness and cabin fever who may be able to keep bf because this kind of
"tent" gives them just that smidgen of relief from their modesty issues.
FWIW -- as Cathy B always reminds me, there are lots of kinds of mothers, and
they need lots of kinds of support.
