Annette,
First, note that the only population used in this study was women from
S. Africa. Most other contributing risk factors are different than
other places, like the US, i.e.. high fat diet, exposure to estrogen
treated beef, etc. Because this one study in this one population did
not support the current data that breastfeeding can reduce the risk of
"some" types of breast cancer, does not invalidate all other data for
all populations. Only if this same result is repeated in other
populations and can be reproduced by other researchers, will the status
quo of believing that bf helps to protect against breast cancer be
amended.
