Lactnetters,
with reference to Pat's comments on looking at the elmination patterns
for babies in the "normal" situation (ie homebirths), Carol (?) said:

I've had two home births, and although, admittedly, my first homebirthed
baby had a rare form of jaundice, from birth, I have to say that both
babies were generating meconium diapers like some kind of meconium
factory and absolutely *soaked* through everything with urine. So much
so, that I regularly advise other mothers looking for homebirth to buy
the next size up of disposable diaper, and be prepared to change it a
lot. The newborn one's just don't cut it.

Incidently, both babies nursed very infrequently, for only short periods
(seconds), for the first 48 hours of life. Where on earth did it all
come from?
