Laurie's post reminds me of a client whom I worked with last week.  She was
told by a couple of nurses to be sure to change the hold with each feeding
or she would have sore nipples.  So mom was rotating the holds, even though
in anything but the regular cradle hold, her nipples were hurting.

That is why she called me.  The baby has hip dislocation in both hips and
is in a "harness".  It is very hard to hold her in any position, but the
cradle works best. The clutch hold is very awkward with the little one's
legs splayed out.

Mom was appreciative of the help I gave her on other things, but *most*
grateful that I encouraged her to feed in any position that was comfortable
for her and baby.  She just beamed!!

I told her that the nurses were partly right.  If a feeding problem is
resolved, temporarily changing position while the nipples heal is helpful.
But that, in her case, comfort was the gauge.
