The answer appears to lie some where in between Hale and the pharmacy.
The key question is what information did the pharmacy use to make its
recommendation.
Apparently there was an article in the Journal of Human Lactation 11(3), 1995
that recommended to pump for 36 hours before resuming breastfeeding.  Hopefully
someone out there has a more complete citation which I would appreciate knowing
so I can pull the article.  If you do, please note it on Lactnet.
The ideal thing to do in this situation is to obtain a series of milk samples to
determine how long the mother should interrupt breastfeeding.
