My husband felt the same way as your husband....wanted to compliment a
nursing mom but felt uneasy.  He finally got comfortable making comments like
"isn't nursing your baby wonderful" or "isn't that so much easier than
lugging a bottle around?"  It let the woman know that he approved but wasn't
so  "in your face".

On another matter, wasn't that you that got a letter to the editor published
in Life Magazine?  Way to go!  (I wrote one too about the same thing, but was
not published.)
