Like many others, I am enjoying this thread... for more reasons than
one. I married the "love of my life" and moved with him and our infant
some to Iowa. I became involved with LLL 27 years ago, and dh drove me
over an hour to meetings for approximately 8 months until I became a
Leader. In many ways, big and small, he supported and enabled my
efforts. He, too, knows more about breastfeeding than most of our MDs.
He supported our children nursing past three years( and only once in a
while asked me "Why can't you be like everyone else?" :) He attended
Couples' Meetings (even though I thought he really didn't want to be
there) and did what he could so I could attend District meetings, State
Conferences and three Int'l Conferences!
We were divorced in 1980, but he never struggled against what was best
for the children when it came to visitation. To this day he is one of
my best friends and supporters, and a wonderful Dad to our three adult
kids. A couple of years ago, a WBW billboard was placed on the roof of
his Pattern Shop (he's a wood and metal patternmaker). He called to
tell me about it. How fitting!
One of the reasons I've enjoyed this thread is reading that I'm not the
only LC out here who is divorced. Being divorced while active in LLL
was difficult for me to deal with for personal reasons.... I've gotten
over it since then!
