A question recently came up about hep B and C in our nicu. The neo is also
an infectious disease fellow and after presenting the red book and dr.
lawrence's medical conttraindications to bf, this doc still said not allow
bf b/c would not want to take the chance of the baby getting hep. (I know, I
know it is the PARENT's choice - yeah try telling them that). Now since this
is regarding preterm babies, I wondered, Neonatologists, would this alter
your recommendation? I.e. would preterm/sick babes be at different risk and
therefore advised not to bf.? There are so many battles everyday, I must
choose my battles very carefully. (like not to d/c bf w/ jaundice - these
are the everyday events).
