Dear Lactnetters,
In New Mexico, *ANY* person who has reasonable suspicions regarding
child abuse is required by law to report that suspicion to Child
Protective Services. It is a fourth degree felony *NOT* to report
abuse if the abuse can be confirmed. A few years ago, several social
workers who allegedly knew abuse was occurring in a home were convicted
because they failed to help and report the offense. The report can be
made anonymously.
I also remember an article about a mother who was breastfeeding while
she was addicted to cocaine and she was arrested and convicted for
endangering a minor and child abuse charges.
