Another thought on "what's in it for them"--since we all know the ABM
companies wouldn't be giving away anything if they didn't see it as an
investment!
Could it be they plan to "use" this relationship in their advertising?
That's how one pain-reliever company did it: supplied doctors' offices with
gobs of samples, then said in their ads: "More doctors use our product than
the other brand".
These companies can be sneaky! I had a situation come up a few years ago,
where a co-worker & I had made a date to pig out on crab legs. The morning
of our "date", she called (fortunately!) to tell me she'd invited "Sally",
the M-J rep to join us. "Before you say anything" she said, "Sally already
agreed we wouldn't talk shop, so you don't have to worry about arguing bf
with her, and she's not paying for us, either". My reply: "Even if we
didn't talk shop, I can bet you a few days/weeks/months from now, when she's
talking to someone else on our staff, she'll make a point to say 'When CAROL
and I were having dinner together....' and my credibility as an LC will be
trashed." Needless to say, I did NOT have crab legs with her that evening.
Could it be this company wants to be able to say to Hospital B, "well, last
week when Hospital A signed us up as an exclusive provider..."?
Just a thought....
