I personally don't see anything wrong with hospital centers renting pumps
etc for income. It makes it convenient for parents at a stressful time,
instead of running all over the county to find a pump or aid. If you have
a problem with it ethically let your hospital pharmacy rent the pumps.
However, if you are personally sure that this mom/baby needs a pump what is
ethically wrong with that? You have to establish your ethics and
parameters.
Now don't bother to flame me, we've discussed all this before. And yes, I
know that having pumps easily available makes us reach for them sooner.
When I was in this position, however, I found it made me think harder, work
harder to avoid the pump, just so I wouldn't fall into the trap of "it's
here, let's use it." Sometimes a pump is clearly indicated. Why feel
guilty about providing it? Oops, there's the guilt word again :-)
Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
