I would suggest to the mom that she ask the dr to provide her with a
journal article, etc that is CURRENT that says supplementation is
necessary. Is she also pumping her breasts? Maybe she could compromise
with the doc that she give EBM instead of formula .  Renting
phototherapy belts for home use would be an option,too. There is a brand
that has a very intense light that will reduce the bili quickly and baby
can be held and breastfed while it is on.
