Subject:	Giving doctor ordered supplements when it may not be needed

A healthy full term, well hydrated, nursing great baby today was ordered
supplementation because of a weight loss of about 8%. When asked how much
this doctor wanted the baby to get the response was more of a question then
an answer.
( about 1/2 to 1 oz). She did want it by finger feeding or cup.
How do others give instructions to new parents when it looks like it isn't
needed but it is ordered?
