It is quite easy to trade with neighbors and friends -- I'll give you my
extra cheese and boxes of Kix in exchange for whatever (other kinds of
foods, babysitting, lawn mowing, cigaretts, alcohol, illegal drugs, etc.).
This was common among WIC participants in Bloomington, Indiana in 1980-81,
and I suspect there is an entire secondary economy of trade that goes on
with WIC foods once they have been obtained by the family.
