Lactnetters,
I thought I'd just share why I wrote "Uterine prolapse" as a condition
blamed on breastfeeding. I had a 3rd degree prolapse which has been
treated with electrical stimulation and physiotherapy (I wrote about my
experience on my web page). But before all this, I was told by two
doctors, on seperate occasions that "breastfeeding weakens the
suspensory ligaments that leads to prolapse".
My physiotherapist nearly choked on her coffee when I related this to
her. "So the fact that you've had chronic constipation since childhood,
have had pelvic floor problems since your teens, have given birth to
three large babies vaginally, including one extended 2nd stage and two
precipitous 2nd stages, all in the period of 3.5 years and the prolapse
didn't happen until the *third* baby was 5mo; means that *breastfeeding*
is to blame?" She shook her head in despair.
Thankfully, no sacrifices on altars of ignorance will take place.
