Annie,
I have seen women with HELLP Syndrome have difficulty with lactogenesis
and struggle with milk supply. HELLP is the severest form of preeclampsia.
In HELLP, there is a change in the coagulation process. Maternal death
results from placental abruption, cerebral hemorrhage, acute renal or
cardiac failure, DIC. My thoughts are that the pituitary gland may be
affected as in Sheehan's syndrome -- therefore leading to the compromised
lactogenesis.
