There is no evidence, however, that suctioning is *good* for healthy
newborns. This is a definite intervention, and we need to prove
interventions are good, before we go at them. The neonatologists here in
Toronto, not for breastfeeding reasons, naturally, were going around to the
hospitals a few years ago telling pediatricians *not* to suction routinely.
There is no doubt that occasionally some babies go apneic when they are
suctioned.
