I agree wholeheartedly with Cathy Genna about helping parents choose the
right pump, but in so many cases, they are not looking at the quality of
function - they are looking at the price and they think that all breast
pumps work the same. Too bad that they have to learn the hard way, but
sometimes that's the way it is.  It is hard to cover this well in the
short stay climate; there are so many other things that you need to
clarify with them about breastfeeding. I wish I had a dollar for every
mom who says "oh I have an electric pump at home" and is referring to an
Evenflo battery pump. Good marketing will win every time - our defense
is to market ourselves as the knowledgeable party.  And Jane Bradshaw
had some excellent advice about getting know the products we encounter.
It's a great inservice/educational opportunity for staff members.
