A nurse from one of our hospitals called me tonight with a question. Since I
was not positive, she asked if I would post to Lactnet for her.
She's working with a mom who has inverted nipples. Mom is pumping prior to
feeding. They were a bit shocked at the color of the colostrum. She said it
looks like coffee with milk. She felt it was blood mixed with the milk, but
not blood from the nipples. Baby is still getting the colostrum. She just
wanted to be sure there was no cause for concern.
I checked the archives on rusty pipe and colors of colostrum. Does it sound
like this milk falls into that category, or should there be cause for more
concern?
Thanks.
Aloha,
Gloria Thai
