Hi, I am a new member and I am learning a ton, thanks guys. I am a home
care nurse and I do primarily post partum visits and premis visits. I
have also worked in NICU's forever and have a special interest in
breastfeeding premies. I am the unofficial breastfeeding resource at our
agency and have started assissting the breast feeding mom's. I love it!
I am sitting for the 2000 IBCLC exam so I can make it official. I am
also starting a lactation support program with our home care agency. I
find that these moms get support at home in the first week. We go out
and see them, the hospitals sometimes make a follow up phone call, then
they are on their own, usually at the time when the baby is doing that
nurse continually for 2 days thing . My plan is to make a phone call to
all the breast feeding mom's at that point to see how they are doing and
then make a home visit if it is necessary. Most HMO's will pay for a
lactation visit in the first month, the mom's don't know this. We are
also goiung to market to pedi offices AND ob offices, as well as
hospitals and , of course, the HMO's. If any of you are in the home care
field and have some sugesstions, I would love to see them!
