Hi,

I know of mothers who used goat's milk formula due to the baby being
allergic to both standard and soy formula, refusing to drink hydrolysate
formula (or in one case, actually intolerant to it) and human milk from
a bank not being available (an entirely different thread, but I am
constantly frustrated by the lack of access to human milk for non-
premies who are unable to be breastfed). In fact, one of these mothers
was my midwife, who was forced to wean due to an unplanned, unstable
twin pregnancy. Another mother relactated, but was unable to meet her
baby's need for milk.

According to everything I have read on allergies, this shouldn't work
(maybe I am out of date), but it does seem to be tolerated by these very
allergic babies. One mother actually obtained a commercially available
goat's milk formula in UK, another manufactured her own, based on fresh
milk. Two of my own children both weaned during my pregnancies and were
unable to tolerate cow's milk (it caused diarrhoea and eczema) so I had
them on straight goat's milk for a year (I didn't bother adding anything
to it as they were on a mixed diet by then).
