In response to Betsy Riedel's question about volume of br. milk needed for a
healthy 36-wker:
What does baby weigh? Here are some general guidelines:
to gain wt. (probably what you want with a 36-wk baby) - 120 calories/kg/day
to maintain wt. - 100 cals/kg/day
Colostrum has 20 cal/oz.
Mature milk has 22 cal/oz.
So, as an example, if the baby weighs 5 lbs, that's 2.3 kg, and he needs
about 13.8 oz. of colostrum/day (doing the math with colostrum because it's
easier).
