Several months ago I posted about a mom who broke out in an itchy rash
every time she would breastfeed her baby. The rash would start about
2-4 minutes into the feed and was unbearable. We were thinking oxytocin
allergy, urticaria, etc.
I only spoke directly to this mom once and the remainder of the
communication was via her friend who is a nurse in our NICU. The mom
lives on a Kibbutz and has limited phone access. I kept asking the
nurse about the mom and finally yesterday, she had an answer about her.
She went to a family physician who told her to stop milk products, and
when she did, the rash totally disappeared. Anyone heard of such a
manifestation of milk allergies??? Anyone want to try to explain why
this rash only erupted during breastfeeding? Unless the mom was
drinking a glass of milk when she sat down to feed, I can't think of the
reason.
Esther Grunis, IBCLC, who will be in the air over the north Atlantic in
exactly one week from now!!!!
