Sounds like these poor mothers were on starvation diets- no dairy, no
grains, no "other specific foods"... Very low calorie diets can reduce
milk supply.
What were the measures of "infant nutritional status"? Were
biochemical tests performed, or were the kids just fatter when given
abm?
And how long was the followup period? Kids often seem to do well when
switched to a novel diet, but this is usually temporary.
