Debbie Mendes wrote about all the excuses she hears about why a preemie can't
breastfeed or recieve EBM. She finds the NICU staff give a myriad of reasons
why the preemie is getting ABM or Nutramigen instead obreastmulk and finds it
aggravating especially in light of all her time and energies spent educating.

Debbie until you have Neonatology behind you supporting the whole
breastfeeding process as important to the preemies' health status it will be
difficult to effect change in your unit. I have seen slow change in our unit
amongst staff members but I have found more and more acceptance and
willingness to learn because our chief neonatologinst has truly supported my
efforts and believes in doing what is truly best for the babies and moms. It
needs to be supported in actions as well as words.

Good luck
