Also remember that David Del Tredici has covered the Alice territory quite
thoroughly.  I don't think he got as far as an actual opera, but "An Alice
Symphony" does include "amplified soparano, folk group and orchestra" (on
CRI 688).  Anyone who is not acquainted with his "Alice" corpus should
check it out; I think it's delightful.
