This is an email I got from the mother I posted about, who was told she
needed to wean before having a lump excised.

I just got a call from my doctor - they rushed the results through, and
what I have is a "galacto-something fibroadenoma", which is a benign
tumour of the breast, originating from the fibrous supporting tissue.
I am unspeakably relieved! They will likely leave it in place while I'm
still lactating (though I don't think they realize how long I intend to
lactate - I did tell them for a *minimum* of a year) and just keep an eye
on it.
[snip about breast self-examination]
I am still extremely grateful for all the info about surgery
(I've saved every scrap), since it is still a possibility sometime in the
future, but I feel better prepared to deal with it. And I can't tell you
how much all your kind words have meant to me.
