Dear Friends:
Good post Laurie. Of course things can be taken to extremes, as in
the situation that you describe. There is much more to parenting than
regulating feeding and sleeping. The family where the 12 year old babysits
the quadruplets, the babies don't make a peep and sleep way for 14 hours at
night is scary to contemplate, and must be more difficult to see.
Babies learn humanity in their parent's arms. No substitute for that.
However, with super-twins, I am much more tolerant of things like Podees than
I ever dreamed I would be. I can't imagine being a mother and having more
babies than I could hold at once, all of the time.
What alarms me is the rise in children commiting murder and suicide.
I don't know of any historical precedent for it. Does anyone? Warmly, Nikki
