I am in practice in the Chicago area. No one in our area that I am aware
of recommends binding the breasts. This practice is outdated and
dangerous. Many women still ask for the "shot" or "dry-up pills." Old
habits die hard! When we explain why this is not recommended they
understand (I think!). I tell them it is OK to let milk leak out in the
shower but DO NOT use a breast pump. We had a problem last year when I
first started with 1st year residents ordering breast pumps for
non-bfing women. I've been using an information sheet that came from
Nancy Bryant's Simple Supplemental Aids to breastfeeding handouts. This
information is in English and Spanish, 6th-8th grade reading level and
has simple illustrations. Email me privately for more information.
